Surely 45 or 33 and a third would have been more "natural" for someone of his generation?

David Jones changes his name to David Bowie so no one would make a monkey out of him.

RIP Mike.

I remember seeing their feature film 'Head' at the Scala in Kings Cross and couldn't believe how trippy it was. They suddenly looked like a grown up band.

I know that Neil Diamond wrote Last Train To Clarksville but it's still a song I grew up with, like I'm A Believer

The sands of time are getting heavier and heavier.

The Monkees where a huge influence on The Beatles. Peter Jackson won't tell you that tho.

Re: Mike Nesmith has bought the farm
RIP

He also devised original programme that spawned MTV.
The monkees were a fake band originally but morphed into their own thing. Head is indeed very trippy but the music is great and it was all theirs.

They say AIDS was created by someone having sex with a Monkey. If I were a betting man I would have said Micky Dolenz, but turns out he is the last Monkey standing.

I think that was the Rutles.

Seriously though, the Monkees were very interesting and I loved them and their music. They were probably the first boy band but ended up being far more talented than was intended.

If any of you don't know the story of the Monkees, I recommend you go look for it, they were truly amazing.

Complete copy of the Monkees only film, Head:

Sonny Liston, Frank Zappa, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, Victor Mature, all appear, as does Chelsea Brown, if anyone else is old enough to remember the black woman who danced in a bikini every week in Laugh In.

I don't think there is much point in watching it sober or free of mind altering drugs.
